These are the upcoming dates for the festivals in Menorca:
The Jaleo and the Caragols of the Fiestas
The caragols and jaleo take place in the old town of the villages of Menorca, at midday on the patron saint’s festival day and in the afternoon-evening of the eve. More than 200 horses, along with their respective caixers, cavallers, and companions, can participate simultaneously.
The companions actively participate during the exhibition of Menorcan horsemanship, they need to be in excellent physical condition, have cat-like reflexes, and possess knowledge about the horse and Menorcan riding. It is very difficult for them to participate actively throughout the entire duration of the Jaleo, due to the presence of other companions and because they don’t have the strength and endurance of the Menorcan horses.
If you happen to be in Menorca on those days and at those hours, you can attend as a spectator and, keeping a prudent distance, watch the caixers and cavallers perform Menorcan dressage exercises.
